MAYRA WORTHEN: San Juan, Puerto Rico
Mayra Worthen began her ballet training under Helena del Cuetto and Maria de Varona in San Juan, Puerto Rico. She came to the United States to continue her dance studies at Texas Christian University (TCU). After graduating from TCU in 1975, she returned to Puerto Rico where she founded the Mayra Worthen School of Dance. In Puerto Rico she also taught company class and was rehearsal assistant for two professional ballet companies, Ballet Municipal de San Juan and Ballet Puertorriqueno de Ramon Segarra.
Ms. Worthen later moved to San Antonio where she opened a ballet school in 1984, Ballet San Antonio Academy, and in 1985 she founded Ballet San Antonio, where she was Artistic Director for 27 years. In 2012 she decided to create a new ballet company, Ballet Latino de San Antonio (BLSA), which is igniting interest in ballet by presenting classically trained dancers who perform in characteristically Latin rhythms and flavors.
HUSAN HOPUY: La Habana, Cuba
Associate Artistic Director and Resident Choreographer
Husan Hopuy began his ballet training at the Escuela Nacional de Cuba where he graduated with a dance degree in 2000. He has danced professionally with Ballet Argentina de Julio Boca, Ballet Municipal de Peru, Ballet Municipal de Cordoba, Ballet Concierto Inaki Urlezaga, Minnesota Ballet and Ballet San Antonio. He has performed extensively throughout Uruguay, Chile, Paraguay, Mexico, Peru, Argentina and the United States.
GISELLE FOX: La Habana, Cuba
Studied at Escuela Nacional de Ballet in La Habana, Cuba. She has performed professionally with Ballet Nacional de Cuba, Ballet de Monterrey and Compania Noctango in Monterrey, Mexico.
JIMMY GAMONET DE LOS HEROS: Lima, Perú
Artistic Advisor and Guest Choreographer
Mr. Gamonet was founding Resident Choreographer and Ballet Master of Miami City Ballet for 15 years, and Artistic Director of Ballet Gamonet. He was principal dancer with Ballet du Nord, Miami City Ballet, Ballet Nacional de Peru, Ballet Municipal de Lima and Ballet Moreno de Camara. His choreography has been performed throughout the United States, South America and Europe.
Mr. Gamonet was recently appointed Artistic Director of Ballet Nacional de Peru.
